Polishing and buffing

In every home across the world, some type of silverware, brass, gold, or antiques are in need of polishing and buffing. It would be your job to go to these homes and get it all done. It does take some time, even a few hours, to polish silverware or displays for the home in the proper way, which is why homeowners are going to hire you to do the job right instead of their doing it.

What are you going to need to do this job right? You will need several types of cleaners, several types of rags for cleaning and polishing, and you will need some types of special cleaners for different metals. You most likely will want to wear gloves so that your hands aren’t always wet when working.  You can find other great tips on TipKing for cleaning all the different metals without using harsh chemicals all the time. Be sure to read about the metals you are working with about what not to use on certain metals, such as, never use bleach on silver – it will turn it black!

How are you going to find customers? You can have your parents tell everyone that they know exactly what you are doing. The silverware or other metals that need polished could be brought to your home or you can go to their houses. You can run ads in the local newspapers or hang flyers in the local stores. You can also go door to door and pass out flyers about your new business so everyone is aware of what you are doing and that you can do it great!

Spring-cleaning season and around the holidays could be your busiest times of the year. You can run specials or sales for homeowners or businesses that use your services before your busiest season.

Get your name out there and start cleaning! Keep a list of customers from year to year that you can call to see if they are ready for their next cleaning.
