Making bookmarks

Bookstores, libraries, students and adults alike need bookmarks to protect books while reading them. Books that are read by several people can show the wear and tear of the reader marking the pages, spreading out the book and when handling the book. Bookmarks help preserve the value of a book no matter what type of book it is. Books can be expensive and bookmarks are an inexpensive solution to this investment situation.

You can create bookmarks from your computer on a heavy-duty paper. You can use popular photos, colors, images, or you can add glue and glitter, metallic shapes, buttons and even pieces of yarn or string to a bookmark to make them more appealing. Bookmarks that are laminated will last longer but are more expensive to make. If you have access to laminating, you can sell your bookmarks for a little more money than the regular hard bookmarks.

You can sell your bookmarks at the fair, the craft show, in school libraries, in grocery stores or at the mall in a booth. You can sell your bookmarks online, through the newspaper or as gifts for special occasions. Give some of your most popular creations to a few children that you know to create a buzz about your business!

The more popular the items are that are shown on your bookmark, the more bookmarks you are going to sell to children. The inspirational bookmarks can be given away at churches (but include your name and email on the back for reordering). Funny or business type bookmarks can be sold door to door or to bookstores to be given away with books that are purchased at the store.

Investigate how much bookmarks cost to purchase them in the store. Strive to keep your sales prices at least one third or one half less than the price in the store and you will sell more bookmarks than you could have imagined!
