Work at the grocery store

If you are of age, you can work in the local grocery store doing odd jobs and making money at the same time. Odd jobs in the grocery store are generally just a few hours a day so you still have plenty of time to do ‘other’ stuff all summer long.  You could be doing a variety of things in a store every day.

Some tasks you will be asked to do will be stocking the shelves, cleaning shelves, dusting, taking out the trash, helping customers to the car and other odds and ends that young adults can do in the store.

Working in a grocery store you will make money weekly. You will get paid by a check. Generally, this job is taken on by older teenagers. There are laws about how many hours a teenager can work a day and what tasks you are performing for your own safety.

When going to any grocery store that is located in your town, you will need to know your phone number, address, a few references –even if they are personal references, and you will be require to fill out an application.

Look through the local classifieds for openings in stores that are near you. Go into the stores that are near by your home and inquire if there are any job openings, maybe it is not listed in the newspapers.  If the store is not looking to hire right now, ask if your name can be put on a waiting list in case an opening comes available.  You can inquire with many stores at one time until you find the place that has an opening that is just right for you.

During the summer, you could be required to work very early or very late hours. Working in a grocery store requires you to be on time, to be nice to customers, to look clean and well kept and for you to show up when scheduled to work.
