What you will be doing is picking out a listing of favorite children’s books. You will add the titles from this listing to your flyers that you will pass out. You can have reading time every day after school for an hour or two hours, depending on your schedule and on the weekends you can have morning hours so parents could do their grocery shopping without the children. (Add this to your flyer for a great response!)

Not only are you going to be reading to children, you are going to be making money. You could ask for a weekly fee or a monthly fee. Generally a dollar or two an hour is going to be the minimum that you will receive for each ‘family’ but if you were to get six or eight children coming over for ‘reading’ time on the weekends you could have quite a crowd going on!

You could expand your services to offer two time slots on the weekends, where you are reading different books, the latest books, or if your parents allow, you could watch children’s movies during these times when the children are restless. This is an extension of babysitting so you will have to be older and responsible for the children during this time as well.

Hang your flyers just about anywhere you can think of – in shopping centers, laundry mats, malls, car washes, and doctor’s offices. If the elementary school allows, you could make up enough flyers and pass them out around to the children and they would take them home to their parents increasing your customers.
